Getting your kids to eat healthy isn't always easy. Sometimes you just don't have the time. And even when you do they don't always eat it. But nutrition is way, WAY too important to just throw in the towel and feed your kids junk. Shakes are my go-to way to make every day nutritious. No crazy prep work, difficult recipes, or searching for unheardof ingredients required. Today for a snack my kids ate 1 cup of baby spinach, 1 cup of blueberries, 1 mango, 1 banana, a complete protein, a daily dose of probiotics and healthy fats. The best part - it took no extra effort or time. I threw it all in the Vitamix and blended. They loved it and asked for more.
If your kids are vegetable-phobic you don't even have to tell them what's in it. Vegetables like spinach, kale, swiss chard, peas, broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower can all be really well disguised by blending them with fruits.
Letting your kids make their own shakes can be a great opportunity to teach them about eating healthy. My kids get so excited about creating their own shakes that they end up picking more fruits and vegetables to include than I would.
Today's recipe was this:
- 1 cup of baby spinach
- 1 cup of frozen blueberries
- 1 mango
- 2 cups of coconut milk
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp probiotics (Klaire Labs Vital 10)
- 2 scoops Chocolate Rice-Pea Protein (Xymogen Fit Food)
Just blend, serve, and leave all mom-guilt behind.
PS: Double the recipe and supercharge your own nutrition at the same time!
