Best Recipe of the Week: Sweet, Buttery Grilled Onions

We’ve been grilling everything lately and loving it. If you’re firing up the grill for Labor Day, you’ll definitely want to make these. They are amazingly healthy and delicious. And guess what? No onion breath afterwards! Even kids will gobble these up because when they’re cooked this way, they don’t even taste like onions. grilled onions

You only need three ingredients: Yellow Onions, Organic Better than Bouillon, and Butter

Here’s how you make them:

  1. Peel off outermost paper layer of onion and cut an X shape into the top (about ¾ of the way through, just enough so the butter and bouillon goodness can drip all the way through.
  2. Place ¼- ½ tsp of Organic Better than Bouillon and a pat of butter on top of the onion. *We use Earth Balance Butter because one of our children has a dairy allergy. If there’s allergies in your family this is a healthy substitution.
  3. Wrap onions in aluminum foil and grill until onions are soft (about 20-30 minutes depending on how hot your grill is)

PS: I had no idea how to spell “bouillon” before I wrote this blog.

PPS: If you haven't heard, onions are crazy healthy. Here's a few reasons why you may want to eat them...

Onions are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate, manganese, potassium, and fiber.

Onions are one of the best natural sources of quercitin. Quercitin is a powerful antioxidant that is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-cancer. Studies suggest that quercitin may reduce allergies and asthma, support a healthy cardiovascular system, improve immune function, act as an anti-diabetic, and inhibit certain cancers such as prostate and stomach.
