Homemade Cough Remedy

Do you know thousands of children under age 12 ending up in the emergency room each year because of over the counter cough/cold medication?

Or did you ever hear that there's actually no evidence that shows cold/cough medications will actually help your child feel better?

What about that cold/cough medicines were never even tested on children, only on adults and the decision was to just "use less" in pediatric cases?

Because of these reasons and more, we don't use traditional cold/cough medications in our house.

So, what do we do when our kids get a cough?

Easy! Whip up this super easy Onion Syrup.

My favorite part is it only requires 2 ingredients that we always have on hand - onions and sugar (preferably both organic, of course).

Onions are somewhat of a superstar in the natural medicine world. They're great for supporting the immune system as well as being anti-microbial, anti-spasmodic, mucolytic, and expectorant (fancy words that means they'll kill germs, calm a cough, and help dislodge all of the gook out of the lungs).

Here's how you do it:

  1. Peel and slice your onion.
  2. Alternate layers of onion and sugar in a bowl.
  3. Let stand for a few hours

And in that time you'll begin to see a syrup that was extracted from the onions in the bowl. The longer you let it sit, the more syrup will form. This syrup is what you will give, 1 tsp as often as needed throughout the day.

It tastes surprisingly sweet & delicious! Check it out below.

We find it helps tremendously. Let me know how it works in your house.
